Code of conduct for research or teaching involving the importation or development of genetically modified organisms using recombinant DNA

All staff and students conducting research or teaching involving the importation or development of low risk genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in containment must ensure that their work is done in such a way that any adverse effect on the environment is minimised as specified in the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996.

All proposals for research or teaching in the above category must comply with the procedures developed by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

Such procedures require that all researchers or lecturers contemplating work involving GMOs must apply for approval to an institutional biological safety committee. At Massey University, this committee is the Genetic Technology Committee (GTC).

Find the full application procedures on the website.
