“Massey’s point of difference is the quality of the services: unlimited broadband, lots of parking, great online services, and great student support”
I studied a Bachelor of Applied Economics (bachelor degree and an additional honours year), completing in 2012. I took this degree because I was interested in the effects the economy has over our everyday life, culture, and the environment we live in. I took many statistical/quantitative papers which gave me the analytical skills, as well as understanding the overall context of the data (using economic theory). Massey’s point of difference is the quality of the services: unlimited broadband, lots of parking, great online services, and great student support. I was very impressed by the availability of lecturers assisting me with my academic and professional requirements. I really liked the small classes as they made the lectures more interesting. My ambition is to use economics to assist the greater society. My studies gave me basic tools which I can use, and improve (as I get more experienced) for analysing and evaluating public policies, and different economic situations, as well as offering solutions.
Applied economics will prepare you for a range of roles in the economics analysis and policy-making arena within New Zealand and internationally.
If you would like to graduate and step directly into the role of a professional economist, this is the degree to choose. This is also the best option for students planning to undertake postgraduate studies in economics. Recent graduates of applied economics have found employment with several government ministries, including Treasury and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and major corporations, such as ANZ and Spark.
Economists are highly sought after in the private and public sector, big and small firms, large international agencies, schools and universities and economic policy and social organisations. With a BApplEcon you can join the world of business in a variety of roles.
