The Centre is located on the Turitea campus of Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand. Contact can be made via either of the two Co-Directors, the Foundation Director or Deputy Director.
The Centre evolved from the Animal Welfare Research Group established in 1992 in the former Faculty of Veterinary Science. The Centre’s formation received Massey University Council approval in November 1998.
The Centre’s objectives are: "To promote via scientific research, education and advice, the humane and responsible care of animals, and to develop and apply ethical principles to guide human-animal interactions and the use of biotechnology."
