Massey Agricultural Experiment Station

The Massey Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) is New Zealand's first agricultural experiment station – an internationally-recognised term for a group of farms undertaking research together in areas of significance to science, the industry and consumer.

Working with industry and research partners, MAES runs research and trials to provide benefit to all those involved in agriculture.

The Station is comprised of eight farms, including conventional and organic dairy units, sheep, beef and deer breeding units and a mixed enterprise/grazing/cropping unit over 2000 hectares.

The farm stock includes 9000 sheep, 700 beef cattle, 1100 dairy cows and 200 deer.

Research projects

Scientists working on MAES farms are researching relevant global issues facing the beef and dairy cow, pastoral sheep and deer farm industries.

We welcome enquiries from industry and postgraduate students interested in working with us.
